How do I install KeyShift AI?

Download the installer for your platform (Windows or macOS) from our download page. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, sign in with your account to start using KeyShift AI. Note: some antivirus programs (especially Bitdefender) may flag or block the installer by mistake — this is a false alarm, KeyShift is safe. If the install is blocked, allow KeyShift in your antivirus and run it again. See the antivirus/firewall note in Troubleshooting below.

How do I connect my desktop app to my account?

After installing, click "Sign In" in the app. This will open your browser where you can log in. The app will automatically connect to your account. You can also go to the Connect Desktop page from your dashboard.

What are credits and how do they work?

Credits are used each time you perform an AI action (fix, translate, summarize, etc.). Free accounts get 25 credits per month, refreshed monthly. Pro accounts receive 10,000 credits per month.

How does the keyshift typed trigger work?

Accepted Answer

Write your text, then type keyshift followed by an instruction (e.g. keyshift fix this email). By default, press space twice to confirm. You can enable Auto-run on pause on the Home tab in the app to run after you stop typing instead. See the full guide at keyshift.ai/guide/keyshift-trigger.

What keyboard shortcuts are available?

Select text in any app and press your configured shortcut (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+G for fix/grammar). Open the desktop app or dashboard to customize shortcuts and assign custom modes. See keyshift.ai/guide/shortcuts-and-modes.

What are Command Palette, Actions, and Clipboard?

Why did my Keyshift window disappear?

Clicking ✕ minimizes Keyshift to your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS) so global shortcuts and the typed keyshift trigger keep working everywhere. Click the tray icon to bring it back. The first three closes also show an in-app card explaining this — and if you'd rather it fully quit on ✕, switch the preference in Settings → System → When I close this window. As of the latest update, clicking outside the window no longer hides it (so the window stays put while you switch apps). See keyshift.ai/guide/tray-and-background.

Is there a setup tour or walkthrough?

Yes — the first time you open the desktop app, an interactive 3-step tour runs through (1) a quick welcome, (2) a sandbox to practise the keyshift … space-space trigger, and (3) a summary card with your platform-correct shortcuts. You can replay it anytime from the tray menu or Settings → Help → Run tour. There's also a web version at keyshift.ai/welcome if you want a primer before installing.

Can I create custom AI modes?

Yes! Go to Shortcuts in your dashboard and create custom modes with your own prompts. Assign hotkeys in the desktop app under Settings.

Does KeyShift AI work with all applications?

Accepted Answer

Keyshift works in most apps with text fields or selection — browsers, Office, Slack, Notion, IDEs, and more. Some embedded editors may need you to use the keyshift typed trigger instead of shortcuts.

The Pro plan (€9/month or €69.99/year) includes 10,000 credits per month, custom modes, priority support, and all features. You can cancel anytime from your Billing page.

Question 14

How do I cancel my subscription?

Accepted Answer

Go to the Billing page in your dashboard and click "Cancel subscription" at the bottom. You'll be asked to share your feedback, and your subscription will be cancelled at the end of your current billing period.

Can I get a refund?

If you're not satisfied within the first 7 days of your Pro subscription, contact us at support@keyshift.ai and we'll process a full refund.

The keyboard shortcuts aren't working

Accepted Answer

Ensure Keyshift is running (system tray/menu bar). On macOS, enable KeyShift AI under Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then quit and reopen the app. Typed keyshift triggers also need Input Monitoring. See keyshift.ai/guide/permissions.

Question 17

I'm getting "No credits remaining" error

Your credit balance has reached zero. You can purchase additional credits from the Billing page, or upgrade to Pro for 500 monthly credits.

Question 18

Sign In does nothing, or the app won't connect to my account

Accepted Answer

This is almost always your antivirus or firewall blocking KeyShift's connection, not a problem with the app. It's a false alarm — KeyShift is safe. Signing up works because it just opens your browser, but Sign In needs the app itself to reach our servers, and your security software is blocking that. The fix: allow KeyShift through your antivirus/firewall (or briefly turn the firewall off), then restart KeyShift and click Sign In. See the antivirus note below for Bitdefender and others. If you're on a VPN, turn it off and try again.

Question 19

My antivirus or firewall is blocking KeyShift (Bitdefender, Defender, Norton, Avast…)

Accepted Answer

New apps that aren't yet widely recognized can get flagged by mistake, especially by Bitdefender. KeyShift is completely safe. To fix it, add KeyShift as an allowed/excluded app in your security software, and if sign-in still won't connect, allow it through the firewall too (in Bitdefender: Protection → Firewall). For Bitdefender specifically, turning the Firewall off then signing in is the quickest test. Once allowed, everything works normally. Still stuck? Question 20

KeyShift opens as a blank or black window (Windows)

Accepted Answer

This means Microsoft Edge WebView2 — the Windows component KeyShift uses to draw its window — is missing or damaged on your PC. It's not a KeyShift bug. STEP 1 (fixes most cases): reinstall the WebView2 Runtime from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/ — scroll to Evergreen Standalone Installer, choose x64, run it, then reopen KeyShift. STEP 2 (only if the installer says WebView2 is "already installed" but KeyShift is still blank): the runtime is damaged, not missing, so a normal reinstall skips it and can't fix it — it needs a clean force-reinstall. Email support@keyshift.ai or reply to your ticket and we'll send you a ready-to-run fix (one paste in an admin terminal), or do it with you on a quick 5-minute call. Either way we'll get you running — you won't be left stuck on a blank window.

Question 21

Auto-update isn't working

Accepted Answer

The app checks for updates automatically on launch. You can also check manually from Settings. If updates fail, download the latest version directly from our website and install it over your current version.
