AI for Gmail
AI writing assistant for Gmail
AI for Gmail that also works in every other app. KeyShift drafts replies, fixes grammar, changes tone and translates emails in Gmail on Windows and Mac. Free plan, your own API key on Pro.
Gmail is where most of us write the emails that matter: the client, the recruiter, the landlord. It is also where a clumsy sentence costs the most.
KeyShift turns a rough draft into a finished email without leaving the compose window. Select the paragraph, press one shortcut, pick Make professional, Shorten or Fix grammar. Or select the email you received and choose Reply, and the answer is drafted from what they actually asked.
What you can do with KeyShift in Gmail

What Gmail's own AI covers
Gmail's Help me write drafts and polishes inside Gmail on eligible Google accounts and plans. It stays in Gmail: the same email in Outlook, the follow-up in Slack and the note in your CRM are outside its reach. KeyShift works in Gmail and in all of those, with the same shortcut and the same custom actions.
How KeyShift works, in any app
- Quick Actions: select text, press Ctrl+Shift+A (⌘⇧A on Mac), pick an action. The result replaces the selection.
- The typed trigger: write normally, add keyshift plus your instruction, press space twice. No selection, no shortcut.
- Voice (Ctrl+Shift+M), text from screen (Ctrl+Shift+O) and clipboard history (Ctrl+Shift+V) for the text you do not have yet.
- Undo any replacement with Ctrl+Shift+Z, up to 20 steps.
Windows 10 and later, macOS 11 and later, and Android. See the getting started guide.
Tips for Gmail
- Select only the body, not the quoted thread below it, so the action works on your words.
- Save a custom action called Sign-off that adds your usual closing and signature style (Pro).
- Use Reply with a short note in the instruction ("decline, suggest next month") to steer the draft.
