Wordtune alternative
A Wordtune alternative that works outside the browser too
A Wordtune alternative for rewriting sentences with AI in Outlook, Slack, Word, Notion or any other app. Select, press a shortcut, done. Custom tones, translation, free plan.
Wordtune rewrites sentences well and offers a handful of tones. It reaches your text through a browser extension, a web editor and a few add-ins, so it is strongest where those exist.
KeyShift takes the rewrite out of the extension and puts it under a system-wide shortcut. Any text field, any app, including the desktop ones: Outlook, Teams, Slack, Word, your CRM, your ticketing tool.
What Wordtune is built around
- Sentence-level rewrite suggestions you pick from, mostly inside the browser.
- A set of tones (casual, formal, shorten, expand) chosen from a menu.
- A monthly cap of rewrites on the free plan.
What KeyShift does instead
- Rewrite anywhere. Select a sentence in the Outlook desktop app, press Ctrl+Shift+A, choose the tone. The sentence is replaced where it is.
- Free-text tone. "Make this warmer but keep it short" is an instruction you type, not a menu item you hope exists.
- Replies, not only rewrites. Select the email you received, pick Reply, and KeyShift drafts the answer in your voice.
- Custom actions with hotkeys on Pro, so the three rewrites you use every day are one keypress each.
- Translation, summarizing, voice typing and text from screen in the same tool.

How KeyShift works, in any app
- Quick Actions: select text, press Ctrl+Shift+A (⌘⇧A on Mac), pick an action. The result replaces the selection.
- The typed trigger: write normally, add keyshift plus your instruction, press space twice. No selection, no shortcut.
- Voice (Ctrl+Shift+M), text from screen (Ctrl+Shift+O) and clipboard history (Ctrl+Shift+V) for the text you do not have yet.
- Undo any replacement with Ctrl+Shift+Z, up to 20 steps.
Windows 10 and later, macOS 11 and later, and Android. See the getting started guide.
Questions people ask
Does KeyShift suggest several versions like Wordtune?
KeyShift returns one result built from your instruction. If it is not right, run the action again or refine the instruction ("shorter", "less formal"). Undo is always one shortcut away.
Does it work in Microsoft Word and Outlook desktop?
Yes. KeyShift works at the operating-system level, so Word, Outlook, Teams and every other desktop app are covered without add-ins.
