Notion AI alternative
A Notion AI alternative that leaves Notion with you
A Notion AI alternative: the same rewriting, summarizing and translating inside Notion, plus Slack, Gmail, Word and every other app on Windows and Mac. One shortcut, free plan, your own API key on Pro.
Notion AI is convenient inside Notion: summarize a page, fix a paragraph, draft an outline, without leaving the editor. The limit is in the name. The moment the text is in Slack, Gmail or a document somewhere else, it is not there.
KeyShift gives you the same actions in Notion and keeps them when you switch apps. Select text in a Notion page, press Ctrl+Shift+A, pick Summarize. Then do the same in the Slack message about that page. One tool, one shortcut, one set of custom actions, everywhere.
What Notion AI is built around
- Notion's editor, databases and Q&A over your workspace.
- An add-on priced per member on top of the workspace plan.
- Notion's model choices and prompts.
What KeyShift does instead
- The same actions inside Notion: summarize, rewrite, translate, continue writing, on any selection.
- The same actions outside Notion: in the email that references the page, in the Slack thread, in the Google Doc the client sent.
- Custom actions that follow you. Your "meeting notes to action items" prompt works in Notion, Obsidian, OneNote and Apple Notes.
- Voice typing into a Notion page, and text from screen to pull a whiteboard photo into text.
- Your own key or a local model on Pro, one subscription for every app instead of one add-on per tool.

How KeyShift works, in any app
- Quick Actions: select text, press Ctrl+Shift+A (⌘⇧A on Mac), pick an action. The result replaces the selection.
- The typed trigger: write normally, add keyshift plus your instruction, press space twice. No selection, no shortcut.
- Voice (Ctrl+Shift+M), text from screen (Ctrl+Shift+O) and clipboard history (Ctrl+Shift+V) for the text you do not have yet.
- Undo any replacement with Ctrl+Shift+Z, up to 20 steps.
Windows 10 and later, macOS 11 and later, and Android. See the getting started guide.
Questions people ask
Does KeyShift work in the Notion desktop app?
Yes, and in Notion in the browser. Select text, press the shortcut, and the result replaces the selection in the block.
Can KeyShift search my Notion workspace?
No. KeyShift works on the text you select or type; it does not index your workspace. Keep Notion AI for workspace Q&A if you rely on that.
Does it work in Obsidian, OneNote and Apple Notes?
Yes. Any app with a text field, on Windows and macOS.
